Curriculum
The curriculum at Greenhill is everything taught in our school both directly and indirectly, it reflects the entire experience of a child in our school. Our aim is that our children become thoughtful and reflective learners that develop a passion for acquiring and using knowledge. Our aim is to create confident and resilient individuals who can grow into responsible citizens. We hope that our developing curriculum will enable this for all pupils. Our curriculum is designed to provide an education that is broad, balanced and relevant for the world in which the children live. We ensure that all of our curriculum subjects meet the expectations of the National Curriculum and by ensuring that it is coherently planned, our curriculum builds towards clear end points in each subject. This allows for progression year on year and gives opportunities for children to achieve a depth of understanding in key curriculum concepts. At Greenhill, we believe that the curriculum must be relevant to today’s diverse society and have clear links with the wider culture in an increasingly global community.
Art
At Greenhill Nursery we welcome and support children aged 3 to 4 years old to become independent learners, to be motivated, confident and to be ready for starting School. We offer both 15 and 30 hour places at our Nursery. This consists of full day, morning or afternoon places. The Nursery class, Potter’s Bunnies (after Beatrix Potter’s famous Peter Rabbit Tales) is run by class teacher Mrs Eisenberg and is supported by teaching assistants Mrs Hague, Miss Slakajeva and Miss McCaulay.
The Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for learning, development and care of children aged between birth and 5 years. There are 3 prime areas of learning: Personal social and Emotional Learning, Communication and Language and Physical Development which form the foundations for the specific areas of Learning, Literacy and Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Computing
Welcome to the Early Years class page. Our EYFS provision is made up of Nursey (ages 3-4) and Reception ages (4-5). In Foundation Stage 1 & 2 we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and ensure children receive a broad and balanced curriculum to give them best chance to achieve the ‘Early Learning Goals’ across the 7 Areas of Learning. We use the RWI phonics scheme to deliver phonics in Nursery and Reception. In Reception we deliver this daily and provide 1-1 intervention for those that need it. We send home weekly phonics videos and ask children to read at least 3 times a week as part of our whole school reading challenge.
Children can access Continuous Provision in all Foundation Stage Classrooms and our Outdoor Area is open all day, every day – whatever the weather! Some of the activities the children can choose from are as follows: Junk Modelling, Role-Play Area, Construction Area, Small World Area, Sand Tray (Indoor and Outdoor), Water Tray, Transient Art, Malleable Area, Fine Motor Area, Maths Area, Writing Area, Reading Area, Mud Kitchen, Outdoor Area.
Design and Technology
Our Year 1 children are taught in different groups for Phonics and then come together to learn all the other National Curriculum subjects. This year we are learning about The great Fire of London, Explorers, Animals including Humans and lots more! You can see all the Units of Learning we study by using on our Long Term Plan. We use Read, Write Inc to plan and deliver phonics lessons. Those children who have completed the phonics programme begin reciprocal reading sessions which develop their ability to comprehend and answer questions about a text.
Each week, we ask that children read three times to a grown up at home, practise their spellings ready for their weekly spelling test and access doodle learning a minimum of three times per week. Our doodle learning assignments are always linked to our learning in class and we love for children to try to stay in the ‘green zone’! We also enjoy a number of trips in year 1 such as: A visit to Eyam, visits to the local library and local walks.
Geography
Our Year 2 children are taught in different groups for Reading/Phonics and then come together to learn all the other National Curriculum subjects. This year we are learning about The great Fire of London, Explorers, Animals including Humans and lots more! You can see all the Units of Learning we study by clicking on our Long Term Plan. We use Read, Write Inc to plan and deliver phonics lessons. Year two children who need to continue accessing phonics do so in small groups. Those children who have completed the phonics programme begin reciprocal reading sessions which develop their ability to comprehend and answer questions about a text. All children take part in lessons to learn spelling rules.
Each week, we ask that children read three times to a grown up at home, practise their spellings ready for their weekly spelling test and access doodle learning a minimum of three times per week. Our doodle learning assignments are always linked to our learning in class and we love for children to try to stay in the ‘green zone’! We also enjoy a number of trips in year 2 such as: A visit to Eyam, visits to the local library, local walks and an overnight residential!
History
Our Year 3 are taught all aspects of the National Curriculum. This year we are learning about The Egyptians, Banksy and Cave Art, Sound and lots more! Children take part in reciprocal reading sessions to help them learn how to comprehend, think about and answer questions on a text. They also take part in spelling sessions to learn the appropriate spelling rules.
Each week, we ask that children read three times to a grown up at home, practise their spellings ready for their weekly spelling test and access doodle learning a minimum of three times per week. Our doodle learning assignments are always linked to our learning in class and we love for children to try to stay in the ‘green zone’! We also enjoy a number of trips and visitors in Year 3 such as trips to the theatre and an Egyptian workshop!
Literacy
Welcome to Y4 at Greenhill Primary. We aim to provide an inclusive, engaging and stimulating learning environment that encourages a love of learning to be promoted for all pupils. As the children move into their second year of the juniors, they can expect to encounter high energy lessons throughout the day. We believe that learning works best when it is partnered with enjoyment.
The year 4 national curriculum is taught to the fullest capacity and we place equal value upon each and every subject.
